Ever Wonder How The Heck People Make Money With Youtube as a Digital Nomad Job?

I know I’m always wondering how. Well, as it turns out, Youtube is an industry where there are digital nomad jobs that you can pursue. Ones that allow you to work and travel, even if creating an actual video is not your forte.

Youtube is more than just a platform that serves up funny videos. It is the world’s second-largest search engine AND second most visited site, just after Google.

How about you? Are you someone who loves to watch a bunch of Youtube videos whether it’s how-to’s, music videos, or funny dog videos? Guess what, you are not alone!

Check out these impressive stats:

  • It is the second most popular social media platform with 1.9 billion users
  • 500 hours of video are uploaded every minute
  • 1 billion hours of youtube videos a day are watched, which is more than Netflix and Facebook videos combined
  • 70% of youtube views are watched from a phone
  • 6 out of 10 people prefer online video to live TV
  • Youtube is in over 91 countries
  • It is in a total of 80 different languages
  • 90% of American 18-24 year olds use it
  • By 2025, half of viewers under 32 will not pay for a TV cable subscription

That’s crazy, right? So it’s no wonder that Youtube is where companies, brands, and anyone who is looking to make a name for themselves are focusing their attention when it comes to creating video content. And like all things digital, the Youtube industry has a plethora of job opportunities available.

Creating video content that is going to be successful in a saturated market takes skill, experience, and a strategy on top of amazing content. Luckily for you, if Youtube, videos, and helping people is your jam, you may want to consider becoming a Youtube SEO Expert.

I’d like to introduce you to the 2nd digital nomad girl boss I interviewed, Nancy Pham. Nancy is a Youtube SEO Expert that helps those who are looking to grow their channel on Youtube as her digital nomad job. Find out all about how she got started in the Youtube industry, what exactly it is that she does, how she learned, and more!

Pro Tip: Never Travel Without Travel Insurance!

You never know when the unexpected will happen. Make sure you are covered when traveling in case of a medical emergency or travel delays. I have been traveling with Safetey Wing for six years and trust them to take care of me. They are a travel medical insurance created specifically for travellers, by travellers. At a low cost of $56/month, it's my go-to!

Interview With Youtube SEO Expert

Your name

Nancy Pham

Your job title, your business name (if applicable), and industry

  • Youtube SEO Expert
  • Youtube Channel Manager

Short summary of what your digital nomad job entails

My job description changes with each client.

With my SEO packages, I do the research, writing, and analysis to help each YouTube video appear under search results on YouTube and Google.

For my channel management packages, I do everything in my SEO packages, as well as making thumbnails, replying to comments, and managing growth. As a channel manager, I basically do every part of the process except make the actual video.

What made you get started with this digital nomad job?

I really hated my office job. I could not stand it anymore. I cried close to weekly at one point about how bad it was because it was far from what I wanted right after graduating from university. It also wasn’t fulfilling my potential. It took too much time and energy away from me accomplishing my real goals of becoming a digital nomad, so I found ways to monetize my areas of expertise.

What’s a typical day like for you?

I can wake up whenever I want to, but I choose to wake up fairly early to get more done. I work on my clients’ SEO before the deadline and spend the rest of my time working on other projects that I hope to grow, like my own YouTube channel and travel blog.

Best thing you love about your digital nomad job + the lifestyle

I absolutely love my clients. They are the best people. I love watching their videos and helping them grow. It’s so satisfying seeing their video come up when someone searches a popular topic! The lifestyle is all I dreamed about. I absolutely hated spending an hour of my day just to DRIVE to the office. Now I have more time to really develop myself as a young adult versus sulking away at a dead beat job.

Least thing you like about your job + the lifestyle

I’m just starting out, so right now is the uncertainty it can lead to. I’m still working on gaining a few more clients to make this income stream more sustainable. One of the difficult parts is getting clients. Another thing is that I will probably not make a “good” income according to American standards while I’m building up my other platforms. But, I’ll be living just fine in the countries I actually choose to live in.

A lot of digital nomads start out in cheaper countries until they are established enough to pull in great incomes.

Average income whether that’s based on an average sale, hourly, yearly, per project, etc.

My monthly search engine optimization package typically ranges from $300-500 USD while channel management packages range from $500-800 USD per month.

What qualifications did you need to get in order to do this career?

For YouTube SEO, I was self-taught from YouTube and practiced on my own videos and channel. Experience beats any formal degree and I prefer to just create my own opportunities instead of waiting around for someone to hire me.

Advice to those who are looking to pursue this digital nomad job?

SEO can be fairly easy to learn but you’ll need a platform to practice on. You can start with your own blog, YouTube channel, or even just creating Pinterest pins!

Best tips on how to be successful working remotely and/or while traveling?

It’s best to have a home base and/or routine. Constant moving can mess up your productivity.

Did you face any criticism getting started, from family or friends, in your digital nomad or remote work lifestyle, and if so, how did you overcome their judgment?

Ugh yes. Most people around me were discouraging me from leaving my stable job, despite how unhappy they knew I was there. I still have to work on overcoming their judgment from time to time, but when I first told them I’m quitting it was after I proved to myself, I could make enough income from my side hustles that I’ll be okay leaving that job to pursue my dream life.

What’s your favorite quote?

There’s 2 quotes I refer to often because my coach has used them a lot.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Marianne Williamson
“As soon as I decide it’s done it’s already done. Now we just gotta wait for y’all to see.” Will Smith

Your best travel tip or budget travel tip

  • You can travel to more places while you’re already in the area. You just have to get to that part of the world and then you can save money from there!
  • Be cautious of money, but don’t let it ruin your experience.
  • If you’re in university or college, look into studying abroad. They have made it much more affordable, and it’s been the best experience of my life.
  • Get a neck pillow you can attach to handles versus one you can only stuff in a bag.
