Have You Heard Of Mindset & Manifestation Coaching As A Digital Nomad Job?

Whether you believe it or not, we are constantly manifesting things into our lives on a daily basis. And what we manifest, depends heavily on our mindset. Some believe that manifestation is “magic” or it’s a bunch of hocus pocus that someone made up. But our mind is something that is so complicated and powerful, that scientists still do not have it completely figured out.

The mind is made up of our subconscious, our conscious, and our ego. And together these working parts take note of every little thing that’s ever happened to you, stores it, and uses it at a later time that could either help you or hinder you.

What you believe, feel, or think, will shape the choices you make, and ultimately the paths that you take in life. If you do not take control of your mind and practice ways to break free of limiting beliefs, old habits, and mental blocks, you could be preventing yourself from living life to your fullest potential!

I’d like to introduce you to the first woman in this series of digital nomad jobs, Chelsea Riffe, who is a mindset & manifestation coach! Chelsea is a remarkable woman who has made it her mission to help others unlock their fullest potential and embrace their highest self, all while being able to travel the world! Sounds pretty amazing, right?

Digital Nomad Jobs:

Is A Mindset Coach Legit?

I feel like coaches get a bad rap. But why is it that we are quick to accept coaches for playing sports to the best of our ability, but not for the things in our lives that really matter like our mindset, our business, and our health? Doesn’t it only make sense that if a sports coach can help athletes perform their best and succeed at winning games, that other coaches can help others become the best versions of themselves and help them to succeed in living out their dreams?

If you’re someone who loves to help others, believes in the power of the universe, and wants to be able to combine those two passions into a career that can allow you to work AND travel the world, then get ready to find out all about becoming a mindset & manifestation coach! Read here if you’re interested in finding out why I made the jump to fulltime travel.

I asked Chelsea to give me the breakdown of her business and her side businesses for digital nomad jobs. Because in this day and age, having multiple streams of income is where it’s at, and Chelsea is no exception! She breaks down what it is that she does, what she likes and doesn’t like about her career, what a typical day is like in this digital nomad lifestyle, what others need to do in order to succeed in this industry, and more!

Let’s dive right in, shall we?! ↓

Pro Tip: Never Travel Without Travel Insurance!

You never know when the unexpected will happen. Make sure you are covered when traveling in case of a medical emergency or travel delays. I have been traveling with Safetey Wing for six years and trust them to take care of me. They are a travel medical insurance created specifically for travellers, by travellers. At a low cost of $56/month, it's my go-to!

Summary of what your digital nomad job entails

  • Mindset + Manifestation Coaching focuses on helping people break through the limiting beliefs they have around themselves (insecurity, self-doubt, imposter syndrome, etc.) to start living in their highest potential and manifesting their wildest dreams.

  • In My Non-Expert Opinion is a weekly podcast that focuses on lifestyle, travel, entrepreneurship, and manifestation. I am the host, so I conduct the interviews and create the content.

  • Yoga Girl Next Door is where I teach online private yoga + meditation sessions.

What made you get started with this digital nomad job?

I worked in corporate America in a sales job for about 6 years, and while I was good at it, I was just drained. I was being extremely creative in my role, but my role was connecting content creators with brands. I went to undergrad for Media + Communication Studies, then grad school for Digital Media + Storytelling, so I felt I was using all my creative juices at work and giving my amazing ideas to brands, instead of making something my own and building a business that way.

So after 6 years, I quit my job and went to get my yoga certification. I then started working odd jobs to make ends meet while working on my own thing behind the scenes. I eventually launched Yoga Girl Next Door and my mindset + manifestation biz about 6 months later.  I started my podcast after a break-up and it became very therapeutic, and a way for me to connect with other people. So my podcast was my first entryway into creating content and doing something for myself, followed by the other 2 businesses!

What’s a typical day like for you as a digital nomad?

I don’t wake up to an alarm – I try to listen to my body and wake up when I want. It’s been harder lately as I moved to Europe from Australia, and am in a major transition phase, but I do try to get up before 10 am. From there, I try to start with some short movement + meditation. I usually do some type of yoga or mat Pilates with Melissa Wood Health, and meditation from the Headspace app or Centr app (Sergio is the best on Centr!) After that, I try to make a healthy breakfast. I find if I start my day with some “mind, body, spirit” connection, I feel more centered and grounded when starting work.

I usually start working around noon and tend to work for 4-5 hours straight. I try to go on a walk at some point in the day to listen to a podcast or clear my mind – I NEED a break from the screen! Then I try to wrap up, but because of the time differences (most of my clients are in North America), I do end up working in the night to answer emails, watch a course video, or create something. I TRY to only work Monday – Friday, but sometimes I’ll work 1-2 hours on the weekend. Essentially, none of my days or weeks look the same side by side.

Best thing you love about your job + the lifestyle

The flexibility and no cap on my income! And how creative I get to be – I get to call the shots on what I want my content to look like, my pics, my style, etc. I get to wake up whenever I want and stop whenever I want. In addition, I get to create my own rates, structures, programs, etc. Because of this, I never feel limited creatively, and can also adjust my schedule how I see fit.

Least thing you like about your job + the lifestyle

Flexibility is a double-edged sword! It takes a lot of discipline to wake up each day and decide when and how you want to work. So sometimes, I do wish I had “set hours” and a “stop time” to what I do. When you start a business, you also do EVERYTHING – you’re the creative director, social media marketer, accountant, digital strategist, marketer, etc. It can be overwhelming sometimes. I’ve started outsourcing, but it took awhile for me to get there!

Average income whether that’s based on an average sale, hourly, yearly, per project, etc.

According to this blog, “The coaching industry’s market value is expected to reach $1.34 billion by 2022”, and “the ICF (the industry’s trade group) estimates that coaches have an average annual income ranging from $27,100 to $73,100. Some specialty coaches can make much more, over $100,000”. I personally net around an average of $2k – $3k a month ( but keep in mind I just started my coaching business this summer), and I know plenty of coaches that make 6+ figures or more per year.

With yoga, the sessions range from $50-$100 a session and I usually sell packages of $250-$500 for 5-10 sessions (depending on the client)

The podcast I use as a funnel for my coaching and as a way to connect with my audience. But there are podcasters who get sponsors or charge for bonus/premium content on sites like Patreon. This can have a range from a few hundred to thousands from sponsors.

What qualifications did you need to get in order to do this career?

  • For podcasting, you can definitely teach yourself with YouTube tutorials and courses. I went to grad school for Digital Media + Storytelling where we learned how to, but when I actually got started, I searched everything myself online.

  • For yoga training, you definitely should go to an accredited school to earn your certifications. I received mine from a school called Trimurti Yoga in Bali.

  • For coaching, I took online courses and invested in coaches myself to learn. The ICF is where you can get an accredited certification for life coaching, but in general, it is not a regulated industry, so most coaches get started by investing in coaches themselves.

Advice to those who are looking to pursue this field as a digital nomad job?

  • For podcasting, the commitment is large if you don’t outsource. There is much more that goes into it than talking into a mic. Conducting an amazing interview takes prep and skill. Pitching and booking guests takes time. Uploading into a platform, writing show notes, linking things, promoting, etc is also a time commitment. So start small to test the waters of how often you want to do it, then scale from there! The good news is you can do whatever you want – 1 show a month, a season, daily…it’s up to you!

  • For yoga + meditation, I’d HIGHLY recommend trying to teach private clients. Teaching at studios doesn’t pay a sustainable income and you can quickly burnout. Private teaching is much more lucrative, exciting, and nourishing in my opinion!

  • Regarding coaching, BE YOURSELF. Once you get into this industry, you realize just how many coaches there are, and it’s easy to start wanting to model yourself after other “successful” coaches, but then everyone starts to sound the same. Don’t become a cookie-cutter version of another coach – be you, speak in your voice, and own your own transformation story to really help others.

Best tips on how to be successful working remotely and/or while traveling?

Try and set boundaries with your time and working hours. If you say I don’t work weekends, then don’t answer client emails on weekends. Do NOT give out your personal cell to clients. If you give anyone an inch, they’ll take a mile, and it’s hard to close the floodgates once they are open. Try to find a space that’s not your bedroom to work. It’s a bad habit and makes it hard to fall asleep because your brain starts to confuse workspace with sleeping space.

ALWAYS be transparent! If you are traveling and think you will miss a call or need to push something back, just tell your audience or client so they know. People are much more understanding than we give them credit for. Lastly, ENJOY your freedom. It can be so easy to get caught up working every day with no set schedule, but remember WHY you wanted this lifestyle. Go for dips in the ocean. Take a break at 2 to walk outside. Stop working and watch the sunset.

Did you face any criticism getting started, from family or friends, in your digital nomad or remote work lifestyle, and if so, how did you overcome their judgment?

I got more questions from moving abroad than I did about starting a business. A lot of people thought I was leaving my financially secure job to “find a husband” << yes this was a real comment…. or to just have a “gap year” and come back. It was really hard for people to wrap their head around me leaving something so stable with no real plan when moving internationally.

I didn’t let it affect me because unless someone is paying my bills or in my own heart, head and soul, how could they know what’s best for me business wise, romantically, etc? It makes no sense to let other people shit on your dream – it is YOUR dream, and I’m sure your dream didn’t have a part where you let other people’s criticism get to you and just give up.

I can assure you had I stayed in that job back home, I would’ve NEVER started my own businesses! It gave me the space to think, find clarity and purpose, and really get honest with myself about what I wanted to do with my life.

Right now, I do so many things that people are actually confused, so now I just say I’m a Mindset Coach + Healer + Podcast Host, and depending who I’m talking to, might switch it up (kinda like niche marketing).

What’s your favorite quote?

OMG so many! This one is longer but always makes me reflect and think every time I read it:

“If you obsess over whether you are making the right decision, you are basically assuming that the universe will reward you for one thing and punish you for another. The universe has no fixed agenda. Once you make any decision, it works around that decision. There is no right or wrong, only a series of possibilities that shift with each thought, feeling, and action that you experience. If this sounds too mystical, refer again to the body. Every significant vital sign- body temperature, heart rate, oxygen consumption, hormone level, brain activity, and so on- alters the moment you decide to do anything… decisions are signals telling your body, mind, and environment to move in a certain direction.”  – Deepak Chopra

Your best travel tip or budget travel tip

OH so many!! I’d say one that has come up for me recently is having a portable charger! That way if I get lost or anything, at least I can charge my phone, go get free WiFi somewhere, and figure out my whereabouts. And try and get a universal converter – SO many outlets to deal with when traveling!
